WNBA Trash Talk: Aces Liz Cambage Tells Mystics Players To ‘Get In The Weight Room’

The Mystics defeated the Aces.

Trash talk is a beautiful thing. Sports is entertainment and needs to be treated as such.

In the semifinal round of the WNBA playoffs, things got heated between the Las Vegas Aces and Washington Mystics.

After staving off elimination in Game 3, Aces center Liz Cambage, who had 28 points on 12-15 shooting, was asked about her dominance in the low post.

“I just kept sealing inside,” Cambage told ESPN. “They’ve got small fours guarding me. If they can’t handle it, get in the weight room or get out of the post.”

Tough talk from the 6-foot-9 Aussie. But she has the game to back it up.

Unfortunately for Cambage and the Aces, the Mystics got the last laugh and won the series 3-1.

But the trash talk didn’t end there. Several players on the Mystics were quick to reference Cambage’s weight room comments.

The Mystics were able to get in a few shots as they advance to their second consecutive WNBA Finals.

Immediately following the series clinching game Mystics guard Natasha Cloud did push-ups on the floor.

Cloud and forward Myisha Hines-Allen took a video doing push-ups with the caption “& that was 50. We’ll show you weight room.”

The official Twitter account of the Mystics posted a video of the players in the weight room during the preseason.

This is exactly the type of bravado that can be backed up with points on the board fans of professional basketball want.

This is entertainment, the more ways you can reach audiences, the better.

The WNBA Finals begin on Sunday, September 29th, where the Mystics will take on the Connecticut Sun.
