Negative Reviews of Dark Knight Rises Bring Death Threats
If you’re a film critic and not impressed with the soon-to-be-released blockbuster The Dark Knight Rises, you might want to keep your not-so flattering comments to yourself… or risk having your life threatened.
Reviewer Marshall Fine was among the not-so-impressed who felt the wrath when he became perhaps the first film critic to give the much anticipated superhero flick a bad review at Rotten Tomatoes. After posting, his critique generated 460 comments. A lot of the responses were rage-filled and quite a few included hate speech and death threats. One commenter asked Fine to “die in a fire” and quite a few threatened to destroy his website, Hollywood and Fine.
While his site wasn’t destroyed, the referral traffic coming via the review link did crash his server.
Rotten Tomatoes has warned the commenters that hate speech or threats will get “commenting privileges revoked.”
Another critic who was blasted was Christy Lemire of The Associated Press who gave the film two stars, noting that it felt like a "let down." The review received 495 angry comments, including the one that said, "I hope you die."
The Dark Knight Rises will be released this Friday.
