Jamie Foxx Visibly Emotional in His First Public Appearance Since Health Scare

The Academy Award-winning actor accepted the Vanguard Award for his performance in “The Burial.”

Jamie Foxx made an emotional return to the limelight this week, marking his first public appearance since falling ill in April.

At the Critics Choice Association Awards in Los Angeles on Monday evening (Dec. 4), the 55-year-old received a standing ovation while accepting the Vanguard Award for his performance in “The Burial.”

Reflecting on the past year, Foxx became visibly overwhelmed with emotion as he addressed the audience. “You know, it’s crazy, I couldn’t do that six months ago — I couldn’t actually walk,” he said.

During his speech, the “Day Shift” star showed his appreciation for life, noting, “I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s tough when it’s almost over…when you see the tunnel.” He added, “I saw the tunnel — I didn’t see the light.”

Making light of the moment, the actor quipped, “It was hot in that tunnel, so I didn't know where I was going. S—t, am I going to the right place? I seen the devil goin ‘C’mon, now.’”

Foxx also addressed claims that he was cloned. ”I know a lot of people who were saying I was cloned out there. Boy, y'all ain't s---,” the actor joked.

Last April, Foxx’s daughter and actress Corinne Foxx issued a statement on Instagram revealing that her father had been on the mend after facing a “medical complication” the day prior.

The “Ray” star made his return to social media in July 2022, thanking family and fans for their support. To this day, details regarding his illness have not been revealed.
