Beloved actor and former NFL star Bernie Casey has died from complications to a recent illness, TMZ reports. He was 78.

Casey’s reps confirmed the news revealing that he died peacefully with his family at his side at an L.A. hospital on Wednesday (Sept 19). He was reportedly hospitalized after suddenly falling ill.

Starring in over 80 films, Bernie Casey kicked off his start in Hollywood by starring in a slew of popular blaxploitation film. Some of the most outstanding work he’s starred in throughout the course of his career include: I’m Gonna Git You Sucka, Revenge of the Nerds and Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

Prior to his stint in Hollywood, Casey hit the field as a Pro Bowl wide receiver for the L.A. Rams in the late 1960’s.
