GloRilla Talks Stage Performance, Rihanna Being ‘One of the Homegirls’ and Teases Next Era
GloRilla has been on fire, so it only makes sense that the rapper partnered with Buldak for her second Coachella performance.
The Glorious rapper will be hitting the Sahara Stage on Friday, April 11, but will also be involved in fan opportunities for attendees throughout the weekend. While Coachella guests can get their Buldak hot sauce fix at the brand’s pop-up, they can also participate in a “Buldak Duets” challenge to try out Carbonara, Original, or 2X Spicy sauces with an onscreen version of the “Hollon” rapper. Big Glo will also stop by the Buldak stand for an exclusive meet-and-greet to spice up the latest Coachella installment.
But when the recent Billboard Powerhouse Award winner isn’t bringing the heat in the booth, she leans on the “healthier side” of making noodles with Buldak sauce. “My little garlic sauce, all my little special seasonings I have up in there. And my friends, they put cheese in there, [but] I ain't really just got into the cheese yet,” the rapper told BET.com about what she whips up.
Glo’s also been keeping fans updated on her impressive fitness routine. Ahead of her Glorious Tour in March, she invited fans (the ‘GloRidaz’) to “lock in” with her during a month-long fast. Among her rules were to finish a book, avoid clubbing, go to the gym at least three times a week, and more. While most of the list was uncomplicated to fulfill, Glo admits that one rule was almost broken.
“I probably say that drinking [was the hardest to avoid], but I'm not a drinker anyway. I don't take shots unless it’s occasionally. I drink margaritas,” she explains. “I [had] a lot of stuff to do like the game events–All-Star Weekend and the Super Bowl. I had shows and I couldn't drink. I normally like to prep myself with a little drinky drink. But I couldn’t do that. So that was probably the hardest part, ‘cause drinking water is easy, and going to the gym is easy and reading a book is easy.”
She continued, “Some people did it with me and that did make it easier, the few people that did. When everybody was around just drinking, I was like, ‘Oh my god.’ I was trying to stay away from them.”
But even when she doesn’t pour up before hitting the stage, Glo keeps her crowd turnt. The three-time Grammy nominee even plans to bring out a different side of herself during Coachella. “It might be a little scary. Like, ‘Mu ha ha,’ that type of scary,” she hilariously teases.
As seen in her performances during the BET Awards 2024 and the BET Hip-Hop Awards 2024, Glo’s stage presence has elevated, which she credits to studying two musical icons.
“I feel like I always have that great energy when I perform. But now, I’ve put more creative thought [into it], because I’ve started to study people,” she shares. “I study artists like Beyoncé and Michael Jackson. I just dive deep into my creative bag and so and it changed more because I'm more into it. I'm more hands-on [about what] I want to happen on my tour and my performance.”
Another icon GloRilla considers her music is new ‘homegirl’ Rihanna, who tapped the Memphis native as the face of her three brands, Fenty Beauty, Fenty Hair, and Savage X Fenty, during a February campaign.
“I always tell her thank you. Rihanna talks like really one of the homegirls. Whenever I talk to her, she talks like we homegirls for real,” Glo says. “It be crazy that I get to talk to her like that ‘cause I've been a big fan of Rihanna since I was a little-ass kid.”
When asked about her top Rihanna album, GloRilla chooses a late 2000s classic: “I'm not going to be cliché and say Anti–I'm gonna say Rated R,” she confesses.
Rihanna embraced a darker mood and aesthetic on the 2009 masterpiece, and Glo also has her eye on reinvention as she prepares her sophomore album. “This era I’m in, everything’s been black and gold,” she explains. “Every year I'll be changing what type of mood and area I'm in. I'm stuck in between two things right now for this year. I'm not going to speak on it right now because it might change. But I'm going to step out of my Glorious era when I turn 26.”
While delivering bangers like “Procedure,” “Opp S***,” and Glo’s favorite Glorious track, the T-Pain-assisted “I Luv Her,” Glo’s reach continues to expand. For some throwbacks and new cuts, fans can even pregame Glo’s Coachella set while streaming Buldak’s “Season of Heat” Spotify playlist. With her star burning bright, expect to hear more from Glo as she broadens her rap charm spanning genres. “Whatever presents itself to me and I'm with it, I rock with it, I'm going to do it,” she declares. “I'm not going to put limitations on myself.”
