Nicki Minaj Talks Drake vs. Chris Brown, New Song with 2 Chainz
In a new interview with British radio personality Tim Westwood, Nicki Minaj speaks out for the first time about the infamous fracas between her friend and labelmate Drake and Chris Brown at a New York night club two weeks ago. The first lady of Young Money revealed the words of wisdom she gave to Drake after the incident.
"I don't approve of talented people doing things that aren't conducive to an amazing career," she told Westwood. "I spoke to Drake and I told him from the bottom of my heart how I felt. I'm like 'Baby, you are a superstar and I need you to realize that.'"
Minaj was quick to clarify that she doesn't believe Drake is guilty of any wrongdoing, despite rumors that he started the drama by sending a crude note to Brown about sleeping with Rihanna.
"He did nothing wrong, of course. Rumors are rumors and that's what it is," she said.
The "Beez in the Trap" singer said Drake should avoid explosive situations altogether by calling it an early night.
"Sometimes you just need to go to bed. Go to the hotel and have an early nap. There's nothing wrong with that," she said.
Minaj also spoke on not performing at this year's Summer Jam after Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg trashed her song "Starships” at the pre-show festival. The Harajuku Barbie reiterated her stance that she felt like the victim of a double standard.
"My thing is, I think the guys do treat the guys different and maybe they think Nicki Minaj is something to be played with," she said, adding "I understand that people on the radio have their opinion and all that, but when the artist is coming there to perform, you should just keep it to yourself, just for that one day."
Nicki also revealed that she will be touring North America with 2 Chainz and that the two will be performing a yet unnamed new song together.
