The cause of Heavy D's death remains undetermined after the L.A. County Coroner's Office deemed the results of an autopsy inconclusive yesterday, the L.A. Times reports. Officials said a toxicology test, which could take several weeks, was required before the cause of death could be determined.
Heavy D, born Dwight Errington Myers, died unexpectedly last week at the age of 44. A spokesman for the coroner's office has said no illegal substances were found at the late rapper/producer's Beverly Hills home, although he had recently been prescribed cough medicine.
Heavy D suffered difficulty breathing and then collapsed after returning to his condo complex after a shopping trip. Paramedics called to the scene were unavailable to revive him.
A private funeral will be held for the rapper at Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, New York, on November 18. Diddy and the Rev. Al Sharpton are expected to speak.
On Sunday, November 20, BET will hold a special tribute to Heavy D at the Soul Train Awards featuring Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh, Curtis Blow, Naughty By Nature, Whodini and Stetsasonic's Daddy-O.
