Jada Pinkett Smith Announces Return Of 'Red Table Talk'
When Meta shut down its Facebook Watch platform and all of its original content, fans instantly wondered what would become of Jada Pinkett Smith’s popular and sometimes controversial talk show, Red Table Talk. The series was hosted by her mother Adrienne Banfield Norris and her daughter Willow Smith.
And Smith says that there are exciting new developments and says that the show is "definitely coming back."
"We’ve had a couple platforms reach out to us," Pinkett Smith told PEOPLE. "And we have some interesting avenues that we're looking at now. You know me, I'm always looking for the next innovative thing."
"Actually, there's one idea that we have in mind that I'm kind of excited about that will probably be happening, maybe, close to the release of the book," she says. "We've got some really interesting stuff happening with RTT. I'm excited about that journey as well."
Pinkett Smith said that her new memoir, Worthy, will give fans an insight into her life's journey that she wasn't able to convey through the Red Table Talk format. "So many people feel because of my talk show Red Table Talk that they know my journey. And they really don't. There's been so much about my journey that I haven't really been able to share on a format like RTT."
She added that the book will cover "everything."
"I think people have made a lot of assumptions. And you know what? Rightfully so. I have to take ownership of that, in regards to the narrative that I've participated in, the falsehoods about myself," PInkett Smith said.
"In the book I really explain all of that extensively as part of my reclamation journey," she adds. "I think a lot of people, not even just women, but a lot of us lose ourselves in narratives that are not necessarily or completely forthright."
In announcing the book on Instagram, Pinkett Smith wrote, in part, "This fall, with deep humility and respect, I will take back my narrative. My memoir starts at the beginning, offering an unvarnished and revealing account from my challenging upbringing in Baltimore into a controversial life in Hollywood. It’s a harrowing ride of reclaiming my self-worth while unraveling unspoken truths.
"My adventures of my youth, meaningful friendships, marriage, motherhood, self-betrayal and self reclamation are mere reflections of the adventures so many of us have taken in search of happiness. My hope is that through the exploration of my own tumultuous situations to the rediscovery of deep love, that we are all reminded that no matter where we may be on our journey, we are all…Worthy."
She plans a tour to support Worthy, which is scheduled to be released on October 17.
