Cory Hardrict Defends Tyler Perry Amid Poor Reviews for 'Divorce in the Black’ Film
Tyler Perry’s latest film, "Divorce in the Black," may have missed the mark with critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but its leading star, Cory Hardrict, remains supportive of the project.
The thriller, which also stars Meagan Good, premiered last Friday (July 11) and received several negative reviews, resulting in a surprising 0% rating on the site’s Tomatometer. Nonetheless, it earned a 73% audience score.
TMZ reporters later caught up with Hardrict, who claimed the film was “the #1 movie in the world,” although Box Office Mojo indicates that spot is currently held by "Despicable Me 4."
"I don't know nothing about it," the 35-year-old stated. "I didn't see that. I mean, the people love the movie and we do it for the people—that's who I do it for. If the culture's rocking with it, it's all love. Shoutout Mr. Perry, I love Mr. Perry, though. That's my guy."
Hardrict acknowledged that "everyone has an opinion, and they're entitled to it." "So it's fine," he continued. "But as long as the people see it, my neighborhood see it, South Side, Chicago, L.A. see it, everybody see it, then I'm happy, it's all love."
Hardrict also mentioned plans for another collaboration with Perry, although he couldn't share specifics. He described working on the new film as "the most incredible experience" of his film career.
The actor explained that Perry “takes care of his actors, it's a loving set and we're gonna do it again.”
