A rising Toronto rapper was arrested last week for human trafficking, Billboard reports.
Derek Bissue, who goes by the name Derek Wise, is accused of forcing a 21-year-old woman into the sex trade, making her strip at various clubs around the Greater Toronto area and assaulting her.
The 22-year-old appears to have been arrested on his birthday, during an “attempt” to take the woman’s money, Toronto Police said in a release revealed Monday (Dec. 15).
Bissue faces 15 charges, including three counts of theft under $5,000, making death threats, carrying a concealed weapon, knowingly possessing an illegal firearm, two counts of trying to overcome resistance by choking and robbery. Authorities believe that there may be more victims.
His lawyer blasted the allegations as “shocking and offensive,” and called the accuser “mentally unstable.” Bissue made his first court appearance on Dec. 12.
Bissue has also appeared on The Weeknd's "King of the Fall" (and in the video) and is affiliated with the singer's record label, XO.
