Don Cheadle stars as iconic disk jockey Ralph Waldo "Petey" Greene Jr., who became famous for his brash, straightforward speech during a turbulent time in American history.
As a newly-minted ex-con, Petey links up with fellow ex-offender, Dewey Hughes (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and gets a job at a D.C. radio station ― WOL-AM ― where Hughes is program director.

With the support of his girlfriend, Vernell (Taraji P. Henson), Petey initiates commentary on race and politics with a spitfire humor and candor that makes him a household name in the 1960's.
As time passes, Petey becomes a driving force and resounding voice for a generation of African-Americans seeking peace and justice.
