TLC’s Chilli Has Thoughts About Cardi B’s Breakup That Deserve A Round Of Applause...

*Time travels back to 2003*....

Atlanta rap star Offset isn’t the only one covered by a blanket of Hollywood support in the thick of his breakup with Bronx femcee and his wife of one-year, Cardi B.

In a new interview with People, Chilli of the ‘90's trailblazing R&B/hip-hop girl trio TLC stretched out a hand of praise and words of wisdom for Mrs. Cephus. The entire fan-scrutinized, Hollywood-publicized ordeal hits close to home for the “Waterfalls” singer too, as a woman who was in Cardi’s shoes 15 years ago.

  • As a Bardi Gang repper herself, Chilli told ‘People’ that she completely empathizes with Cardi and the burdensome challenges of a public breakup

“When strangers know your business and want to chime in while you’re still dealing with the pain yourself, it’s difficult," she said. "Breakups are hard on anyone, but can you imagine if strangers knew your business? It’s rough.”

And she would know, considering the media frenzy surrounding her breakup with R&B male heartthrob Usher. Their two-year-relationship was cut short, Chilli eventually confirmed a year after their split in 2004, due to infidelity as well. Though Usher initially denied it, fans gathered all they needed to know about the breakup from his revelatory Confessions album.

Thus, Chilli admires Cardi’s strength and willpower as a woman who is “standing up for herself during a time that is a very hurtful one,” she shared in the interview. She believes that Cardi’s fans connect so deeply with her because of this very reason along with her transparency and fearlessness.

  • Chilli also appreciates that Cardi refuses to take on the ‘damsel in distress’ role as some might have expected her to

The fact that she’s owning the situation and moving forward in her career stands out to Chilli, too. Though she acknowledges that Cardi probably does experience moments where she’s not as strong, the TLC songstress still finds it important that Bardi displays her tenacity. “But at the same time, I think it is very important to showcase your strength because no one ever died over a breakup,” she said. “You may feel like you are going to, but you are going to be fine.”

  • For TLC fans and Bardi Gang members looking for that TLC and Cardi collabo though…

Chilli said she’s a bit iffy about collaborating with female artists with the late hip-hop one-third of TLC, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez in mind. But taking her adoration for Bardi into heart, who paid homage to the Atlanta-founded girl group for her Coachella performance, she would be willing to pull a string.  “I don’t usually like to collaborate with females, and the reason why is because of Lisa,” she stated. “That is just a little weird for me, personally. But I think with Cardi B, she is an exception to the rule. TLC and Cardi B all day long. We’ve gotten a lot of love from Cardi. It’s really an honor.”
