At 12 years of age, his mother put him in local singing competitions, which finally caught the attention of a music A&R from LaFace Records.

He released his self-titled debut album, Usher, and quickly rose to fame in the late 1990s with the release of his sophomore album, My Way. It birthed his first U.S. Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single, "Nice & Slow," and the top-five singles "You Make Me Wanna..." and "My Way," which helped him scoop up his first two Grammy Award noms in 1998 and 1999.

His third studio album, 8701, produced the No. 1 singles "U Remind Me" and "U Got It Bad." In 2002, he earned his first Grammy Award and in 2003 he earned another with "U Don't Have to Call" for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.

Confessions established him as one of the best-selling musical artists of the 2000s. Girls were going crazy and men were vibing out to his very twisted musical story of infidelity and heated romance. It sold over 20 million copies worldwide with Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles "Yeah!," "Burn," "Confessions Part II" and "My Boo" pushing through the radio waves on heavy rotation. Confessions earned him three Grammy Awards in 2005. Go Usher!

Usher won the Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album for Here I Stand and Raymond v. Raymond. The former debuted atop the Billboard 200 and produced the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles "Love in This Club" and "OMG."

Usher's Hot 100 top-10 single "Scream" received rave reviews. R&B singles "There Goes My Baby" and "Climax" received Grammy Awards as well.

In 2013, Usher replaced CeeLo Green as a coach for the fourth season of NBC's The Voice. 

In 2014, Usher announced his UR Experience Tour in support of his album UR. The UR Experience kicked off in Montreal, Quebec, and closed in Tampa, Florida.

In 2015, Usher released an interactive music video exclusively on Tidal called "Chains," which featured artists Nas and Bibi Bourelly.
