Melvin Edmonds Of After 7 Passes Away At 65

Edmonds' son confirmed his father's passing.

Singer Melvin Edmonds, a founding member of R&B group After 7 and the older brother of Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, has passed away at the age of 65, as reported by the Indianapolis Star.

  • According to the news publication, Edmonds passed away on Saturday (May 18), after battling a "short illness." The late singer's son, also named Melvin, confirmed his father's death to the local publication.
After 7 is more popularly known for their late 80's and early 90's hit singles "Ready or Not” and "Can't Stop," which both charted in the Top 20 of Billboard’s Hot 100 charts at the time. "Can't Stop" also earned the group a Grammy nod for best R&B performance by a duo or group in 1990.

  • Melvin left After 7 in 1995, following the release of the group's third album, Reflections. However, he returned nearly two decades later for the group's 2016 comeback project Timeless.

Melvin, Babyface and their brother Kevon Edmonds (also of After 7 fame), have often been dubbed Indiana's most prominent musical family.
Melvin Edmonds is survived by four children: Melvin, Jason, Chris and Courtney.

Our prayers are with the Edmonds family during this difficult time.
