Benzino has recently expressed his disbelief that he and his daughter Coi Leray have fallen out to the point that they no longer speak to each other.

During an appearance on the “We In Miami” podcast, on Thursday (May 9), Benzino said that he was not in communication with Leray to honor her requests.

“It’s unfortunate,” Benzino said. “But, you know, we don’t communicate too much. The whole thing is surreal to me… I’m a smart guy but I can’t figure this one out.”

“Coi is a young lady, she’s independent. This young generation, they don’t want their parents interfering with their lives, man. I have to learn to adapt to that and respect that. It just ain’t Coi, it’s a lot of my daughters,” he continued. It’s hard for guys like me to have daughters and try to figure it out. Not the easiest thing.”

Apparently, the relationship suffered its final blow after Benzino said that R. Kelly, who is convicted of multiple sex crimes, did not deserve to spend the rest of his life in prison.

“Everybody deserves a second chance,” Benzino explained. “The legal age is 16 years old, so does that make it right if a n-gga does it — yes or no?

“Why the f**k is R. Kelly doing all this time? Because they’re 14 and 13 — two years younger — but you don’t think that the people who cleared it for 16 years old didn’t know that they’re f**king with 13s and 14s, too?,” he continued.

In response, Leray took to X (formerly Twitter) to distance herself from her father and his remarks in a series of tweets.

 “I want everybody to know I want nothing to do with anything my father has going on. I haven’t spoken to him in over a year and I don’t condone or respect any of them interviews he got going on,” she said.

“Sharing the same DNA and blood DOESN’T make us FAMILY. Loyalty, boundaries, respect, teaching, guidance, love, patience, encouragement MAKES US FAMILY,” her post read.

“I can’t wait to have a kid one day. I can’t wait to look her/him in the eye and tell them how much I love them,” she concluded.

In November 2023, more signs of the deterioration of their relationship began to show when Leray accused Benzino of being jealous of her success on Angie Martinez’s “IRL” podcast

“I felt like it did come from an envious place, which is okay, ‘cause he’s human, and it’s fine,” she stated. “He’s one of those people that feels like, ‘Yo, I still have a story to tell.”
