Meet the Artists in Jay Z’s Video for "Picasso Baby"
Last month, Jay Z brought hip hop to the art world by performing his track “Picasso Baby” for six straight hours at the Pace Gallery in Chelsea. The resulting music video/performance art film aired last week on HBO and plenty of celebrities could be spotted in the crowd, including Taraji P. Henson, Wale, Michael K. Williams and Fab Five Freddy. Major art critics, art dealers and several artists, including three featured on the BET.com original series The Artist’s Way, also rocked out with Hov. Check out the videos below to learn more about Kenyan born collage artist Wangechi Mutu, portrait artist Kehinde Wiley and mixed-media artist Mickalene Thomas.
The Artist's Way, which launched in February of this year, features profiles of contemporary Black photographers, painters, sculptors and more. The video series goes inside studios, galleries and museums with artists and their work to get a glimpse of what motivates and inspires these creative geniuses.
