Jeezy Breaks Silence On Divorce Filing From Wife Jeannie Mai
It's been over a month since Jeezy decided to put the brakes on his marriage to Jeannie Mai. Now, he is speaking out.
“The decision to end this chapter in my life was not made impulsively and comes with a heavy heart,” the “Soul Survivor” rapper said in a statement released on Thursday (October 19), as reported by The Source. “Despite this, my love and respect for Jeannie remains and the time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart.”
The exes had been married for two years before Jeezy filed for divorce. They are parents to a 1-year-old baby girl named Monaco.
“Our beautiful daughter is the best gift from our relationship and I am committed to assuring she feels the love and stability she deserves,” he added.
“During this period, I kindly request that you respect our family’s privacy as we focus on healing.”
The now-separated twosome met when the artist appeared as a guest on Mai's syndicated talk show The Real before it was canceled. The rapper –who helped put Trap Music on the map– exchanged vows with Mai at their Atlanta home in March 2021.
Mai opened up to Entertainment Tonight about navigating life following their split.
“I’m taking it day by day,” she told the outlet.
For her, work has been a welcomed distraction. “Thankfully, being able to have a show like this and to be able to come to work and be able to do something that you enjoy doing to get your mind off of things,” she explained to the outlet. “Right now, I’m just focusing on Monaco and focusing on things I am passionate about. When you’re surrounded by people, you get to laugh and look at things you enjoy doing in life… and you get through it.”
