Jadakiss Talks New LOX Album
Jadakiss fans, rejoice. The veteran MC delivered an acclaimed new mixtape, Consignment, last week in order to pave the way for his first album in three years, Top 5 Dead or Alive. But there's more good news on the way: In an exclusive interview with BET.com, Jada confirmed that The LOX, his old crew with Sheek Louch and Styles P, are about to sign a record deal in hopes of releasing a new album.
"We're close to signing a deal with one of these big head companies that's really doing their thing, and that’s just the gist of it," Jadakiss said. "I can't really talk too much or let the cat out of the bag until all of the paperwork is done."
A few years back, reports emerged that The LOX were reuniting under their first label home, Bad Boy, to release the album, which would be their first since 2000's We Are the Streets. The album was said to be titled New LOX Order, but it's unclear if that's still the case under the new deal Jadakiss alluded to. With Jada's old Bad Boy compatriot Mase apparently eyeing a return to hip hop as well — that is, if he follows Jada's advice — prepare for late-'90s deja vu.
In the meantime, listeners can expect the LOX to reconnect on Jada's upcoming album, Top 5 Dead or Alive. Although Jada stepped outside his comfort zone and collaborated with unexpected guests like Waka Flocka Flame, Future and A$AP Rocky on Consignment, he says he will return to classic "Jay to the Muah" and his home team on his album.
"My albums [are] always limited on features," Jada said. "I usually just do me with mines, my D-Block camp on one or two features. With [Consignment], I wanted to rhyme on some more bass-y bounce beats, that D-boy s--t, and do some features that you might not hear or might not expect me to be with. It's like an outlet for me to experiment and give the people some stuff they want from me but that they won’t be getting on my album. I’m giving you this one, Consignment, so you could feel it out and have fun with it and love it and absorb it, and I’m going to come back with that Top 5 Dead or Alive, which is that authentic 'Kiss that I always stick to, my same regiment."
And if that's not enough Jadakiss for you, the Yonkers, New York, MC says he also a new trick up his sleeve: acting.
"I shot a movie [titled Must Be the Music] written by, produced by and co-starring actor Charles Dutton. We shot that last year and it should be coming out this year," Jada said. "I'm also trying to do some voice-over stuff — be the voice of one of these characters on Shrek or Kung-Fu Panda."
In the meantime, Top 5 Dead or Alive is scheduled for release late this summer.
