Unfortunately, 2018 has yet to bring about a reconciliation between Birdman and Lil Wayne after nearly three years of opposition that’s landed in court, diss tracks, and verbal shots from live stages.  

Baby’s sit-down with Ebro Darden on Beats 1 Radio takes us all back to a happier time between the Young Money-Cash Money pair when Weezy first flew from his parents and beneath Birdman’s wing as a young, troubled New Orleans kid.

The founding Cash Money boss shared the story of how they developed such a close relationship as it relates to his new documentary about the hip-hop label powerhouse, Before Anythang: The Cash Money Story. He explained that Weezy’s parents, Jacida and Dwayne Carter, both went to school with his siblings. That explains not only the huge age gap between Weezy and Baby, but also why his mother didn’t want him hanging around Birdman, who admits that he led a tough lifestyle at the time.

According to Baby, Wayne ignored his mother’s wishes though, continuing his friendship with Baby because “he wanted the life.” The now-49-year-old said he had other plans for Weezy, however.

“And I just wanted to help him because I didn’t want him to live my life,” he explained. “I just saw some young bro with some talent, and I wanted to help him. And that’s what I did.”

Birdman’s intent, as he recalls, was to show Wayne and the other young ones he had taken to a much better lifestyle than his own, such as enrolling them in private schools and the like. Still, it’s no secret that their father and son relationship grew from their street hustling New Orleans nativity to a fruitful hip-hop legacy for both men to enjoy. Regrettably, the chances of them returning to this brotherhood before settling their legal matters seems slim to none.
