Lil Wayne Admits To Past Substance Abuse Problem
In a new Young Money/Cash Money sponsored documentary-style video Lil Wayne confesses that he had a past addiction to sizzurp.
In the video seen at TMZ.com, the platinum selling rapper admits that he was addicted to the codeine-based drink at a period in his life when he was “sick.”
In 2008 during his rise to super stardom Weezy made famous the Styrofoam cup he drank sizzurp from. In fact the Young Money general says it was the pressure of fame that drove him to develop a dependency on the drink made popular in the South.
Wayne says he was introduced to sizzurp by listening to the lyrics of late UGK rapper Pimp C, who died of an accidental overdose of sizzurp in 2007.
The “How to Love” rapper declares that he quit drinking “lean” last year because, “I’m not sick anymore.”
