Casting News: Zoe Saldana in Talks to Play Eartha Kitt; Chris Rock Picks Gabrielle Union for Dramedy
Zoe Saldana is turning out to be one of the busiest actresses in the biopic business. Fresh off the heels of her controversial starring role as Nina Simone, it was announced Monday that she will also play the lead in the life story of Eartha Kitt. The currently untitled movie will chronicle the legend’s rise to fame through her own controversial career setback when she openly criticized the Vietnam War at a White House luncheon. The film is currently in the early development phase and a director has yet to be attached to the project.
But Chris Rock’s new dramedy Finally Famous, which the comedian also wrote and directed, is shaping up and has finally found its leading lady. Gabrielle Union has been cast as Rock’s fiancée in the story about a comedian-turned-star and recovering alcoholic named Andre Allen, whose ladylove tries to dupe him into an on-air TV wedding. Rosario Dawson also stars in the film as a journalist assigned to interview Rock’s character and who completes the love triangle when she and Andre discover they also share a romantic attraction. It looks like movie audiences will soon have a lot to look forward to on the big screen.
