Kandi Burruss Announces She Is Leaving ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’
Kandi Burruss is bidding farewell to "The Real Housewives of Atlanta."
After nearly 15 years of zesty clapbacks and edgy one-liners, the entrepreneur is retiring her peach on the Bravo reality show as reported by Variety. Burruss made the announcement on Sunday (Jan. 4) while on the red carpet at the Grammys.
“I’m not really keeping up right now,” she said about the show. “I’m not keeping up. I already said it, so I’ll tell you. I decided I’m not coming back this year. It’s been 14 seasons, and they allowed us to sit around for a little too long, but during that time I had started working on a lot of other things, and I got some nice big projects coming soon, so I’m super excited about those things," she explained.
“But it’s not just that,” she continued. “It’s just like, after you really have time to think, and a friend of mine was like, ‘Why do you keep doing it?’ And I was like, ‘Well, I think because I’ve just been doing it for so long, it feels weird to think not to do it?’ So I was just like, ‘You know what? I’m going to take a break, I’m going to take a moment… I’m not coming back this year.'”
Season 15 of the show wrapped in September 2023, and now the network is preparing to introduce a new season with a new cast.
Burruss –who joined the franchise during season two in 2009– has experienced many milestones on the show including when she met her husband Todd Tucker. In 2014, They tied the knot on the show's spinoff, "Kandi's Wedding.” Cameras have also captured the couple parent their blended family of four, as reported by the network. Burruss and Tucker are parents to son Ace Tucker, 7, and daughter Blaze Tucker, 3, who was born via surrogate in 2019. Additionally, they each have kids from previous relationships. Burruss is mom to Riley Burruss, 21, and Tucker is dad to Kaela Tucker, 27.
Along with the good memories that will last a lifetime, Burruss was embroiled in messy fights, including when former castmate Phaedra Parks sparked a rumor with Porsha Williams that she and Tucker had drugged and sexually assaulted women.
“I would say one of my worst years on the show was when we were accused of drugging somebody,” Burruss said during a panel discussion during the outlet's Women in Reality event in November. “I mean, I don’t even like to talk about it, really, to be honest with you. It was a crazy situation that just exploded, and a situation I never thought I’d see myself in, happening on the show. And that was one the times where I really felt like, ‘I can’t do this anymore.’ But we made it through.”
