‘Saturday Night Live’ Alum Chris Redd Hospitalized After Being Punched In NYC
Chris Redd is recovering after allegedly being attacked by a stranger in New York City.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Redd was punched in the face on Wednesday night (Oct. 26) outside the Comedy Cellar in Manhattan, New York Police Department’s Deputy Commissioner confirmed.
NYPD shared that The Saturday Night Live alum “arrived in front of the location in a vehicle, and upon exiting the vehicle, an unknown individual approached, and without prior conversation or provocation, punched the victim in the face before fleeing the location to parts unknown,” no arrests have been made.
He is currently scheduled for an Oct. 30 show at the City Winery.
Redd announced earlier this fall that he would be leaving Saturday Night Live. He first joined the show during the 2017-2018 season before being a part of the main cast in 2019.
While on the comedy sketch show, his contributions on the song “Come Back Barack” earned him an Emmy for "Outstanding Music and Lyrics" in 2019. He shared the award with Kenan Thompson, Will Stephen and composer Eli Brueggemann.
His new HBO Max comedy special, Chris Redd: Why Am I Like This?, is set to debut on Nov. 3.
