Today Would Have Been Atatiana Jefferson's 29th Birthday And Social Media Is Celebrating Her Life

Here's how her family will celebrate her day.

Today, November 28, slain Fort Worth resident Atatiana Koquice Jefferson would have celebrated her 29th birthday.

Sadly, Jefferson’s life was tragically taken on October 12 when she was fatally shot inside her home by a Fort Worth police officer.

Aaron Dean, who was dispatched in response to a non-emergency welfare check call placed by a concerned neighbor after noticing Jefferson’s door had been left open for several hours, resigned before he could be fired in connection with the shooting.

Dean was later arrested on a murder charge in Jefferson’s death.

Today we celebrate (and remember) Atatiana Jefferson, the aspiring doctor, who had already secured a B.S. in biology from Xavier University. She was in the process of working in pharmaceutical equipment sales to save enough money to attend medical school.

Atatiana Jefferson was the baby of a close-knit family and a caretaker for her ill mother.

According to the family’s attorney Lee Merritt during a press conference, Jefferson was a “gamer.” In fact, on the morning of her senseless murder, Jefferson had been up playing video games with her 8-year-old nephew, Zion.

  • In honor of Jefferson, here is what social media had to say on her birthday:

  • WFAA reports, according to a family spokesperson the Atatiana “Tay” Jefferson Foundation and the National Black Police Association will be hosting a birthday party in her honor.

The foundation was founded by her father Marquis Jefferson and Uncle Lapaca Jefferson. Unexpectedly, less than a month after Atatiana’s death, her father passed away from a "broken heart."

  • The foundation promises to “carry out the promise and dreams of Marquis and Atatiana by assisting in the development of Black doctors, serving the homeless community, and mentoring youth in math.”

Today’s birthday celebration will begin with youth communities in Highland Hills and Oak Cliff receiving the “gifts” of computer repairs and mentorship in math. The birthday party will then conclude with a visit to the gravesites of Atatiana and Marquis to place flowers.

Happy Birthday, Atatiana. You will not be forgotten.
