It has been quite a road for Eric LeGrand, the Rutgers football player who was paralyzed during a game against Army last fall.
LeGrand, 20, has always been determined to walk again. But you have to stand before you can walk. And based on the two photos LeGrand tweeted of himself in therapy Wednesday afternoon, he is well on his way. LeGrand is now able to stand on his own, according to several reports.
That is miraculous in itself after the unforgettable images of LeGrand lying motionless on the football field after making a tackle on a kickoff return last October. He had fractured the C3 and C4 vertebrae and suffered a spinal cord injury in the impact.
Doctors predicted he would never come off the ventilator, much less walk again. But after five weeks the ventilator was removed. LeGrand has also gotten back some movement in his arms.
