TikTok Year-End Round-Up: Our Favorite Musical Creators From 2022
2022 was a year that saw TikTok used as a valuable tool in music more than ever.
The social media platform has a global team working with artists and their labels by negotiating licensing deals with rights holders and building new ways for the company to convert its cultural influence into consistent streams of revenue.
And for artists, many have been able to use their creativity to promote themselves, their music, and more, all while creating their own channels of recurring revenue.
Below are some of our favorite TikTok music stars that crushed 2022, and will be looking to have an even stronger year in 2023.
Ice Spice
The Bronx native made her name known to the world in 2022, initially with her first breakout single “Munch (Feelin’ U)” (598K+ creations) and then “Bikini Bottom” (130K+ creations) skyrocketing on the platform. Ice also interacted with her own songs on TikTok by revealing her toxic dating habits.
Ice posed a new question with "Bikini Bottom" that had the TikTok community in a frenzy: “How can I lose if I’m already chose (like)?” The song’s cartoonish beat inspired creators to pretend to be cartoon characters as they scurry through their houses.
SleazyWorld Go
Kansas City rapper SleazyWorld Go was one of the hottest rappers on TikTok this year. His song “Sleazy Flow” offered creators the chance to strut their stuff as it has over 196K video creations. Creators responded to the song’s taunting lyrics or commented on rising gas prices.
Signing a new record deal in 2022, Sleazy’s success on TikTok helped his upward trajectory. The rapper created buzz on the platform once again with his Offset-assisted song, “Step 1”, interacting with it, and reacting to creators’ “Step 1” challenges and sharing their versions of his dance challenge.
Lola Brooke
Uh uh uh uh! You know the song and the enigmatic creator behind it. Brooklyn's own Lola Brooke is the latest female rapper to take off on the platform, as her song “Don’t Play With It” featuring Billy B is soaring with over 157K creations. While some creators coordinate the timing of the Freeze Frame Photo effect with the song’s bold ad libs, others use the repetition of the line “Don’t play with it” as a comedic reaction to various situations in their lives. Latto, Cardi B, and Kim Kardashian even tapped into the catchy ad libs of the track.
