Dr. Luke, producer of megahits for pop stars like Brittney Spears, Katy Perry and Kesha, could be on the verge of signing a major multi-year deal with Sony Music worth up to $60 million, says Page Six.
Luke, born Lukasz Gottwald, from Rhode Island, is the mastermind behind smash singles like "Since U Been Gone," "Party in the USA," "Tik Tok," "Hold it Against Me" and "California Gurls." Under the Sony Music deal proposed by new chairman Doug Morris, Luke would get his own hit factory within the label.
The beatsmith currently presides over the vanity imprint Kemosabe Entertainment under Sony's RCA, but Morris has a new, larger company in mind. The executive reportedly wants Luke to become "his new Jimmy Iovine," referencing the chairman of Interscope-Geffen, who was instrumental in the careers of Eminem and Lady Gaga.
Since taking the reins last month, Morris has already overseen some major appointments, including landing former Def Jam honcho L.A. Reid as Chairman of Epic Records and tapping Sylvia Rhone, previously head of Universal Motown, to resurrect the Portrait label.
