The Jamaican-born Olympian fell to the track at the world championships in London Saturday (August 12) during the last leg of the 4x100 relay race.

To put the race in context, Bolt’s Jamaican team was already down big during the last 100-meter stretch and had to make up a lot of ground, which could’ve help contribute to the reported cramps he suffered, making him somersault far before the finish line. It’s the first injury he’s suffered during major competition.

In front of 60,000 people, Bolt was poised to do his famous “To the World” pose one last time, but injury clearly had other plans.

Home team Great Britain ended up taking home the crown with the United States a close second. According to Jamaican team doctor Kevin Jones, a cramp in Bolt’s left hamstring did him in.

"It's a cramp in his left hamstring, but a lot of the pain is from disappointment from losing the race," Jones said. "The last three weeks have been hard for him, you know. We hope for the best for him."

Bolt’s teammate Omar McLeod was not disappointed by what happened and says the track legend will live forever. After the race, Usain Bolt thanked his fans on Twitter.
