Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles Loses Racial Discrimination Suit
Popular Los Angeles eatery Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles took a huge L this week after the restaurant empire lost a racial discrimination lawsuit that is sure to set them back more than $1 million.
According to CBS Los Angeles, former employee Daniel Beasley, who worked at the Pico Boulevard location of the restaurant, was awarded $1.6 million after claiming that he was discriminated against by an all-Hispanic management — Beasley is African-American. His claims include unfair treatment in the workplace, issues with shift scheduling and retaliation that led to him being terminated, after he complained to both HR and Roscoe's ownership.
In a Southern California court, a jury sided with Beasley, awarding him the sum in personal damages. The family-owned Roscoe's has not responded to the media's various requests for comment.
