Finding Comedy Gold: Comics Share Unforgettable First Moments on Stage

Some of our favorite comics from this season's 'ComicView,' share their hilarious fist standup experiences.

The world of stand-up comedy is challenging, and performers must face the unpredictable reactions of live audiences. While laughter and applause are the desired responses, comedians must also contend with the possibility of being booed or having their jokes fall flat. However, through these experiences, the truly great comedians are forged.

The journey of a comedian is not easy. It takes hard work, dedication, and a willingness to face failure head-on. But for those who have the passion and the talent, the rewards can be great. For the new class of comedians on ComicView, the experience of their first time on stage was a crucial step in their development as performers.

TONY T. ROBERTS

"When I was on ComicView the very first time I lost my mind, I knew a lil pee came out. That was my first time on TV. I popped my achilles two months before I was supposed to go so I had a cast on. Everybody knows me for [my] energy and I couldn't move around."

BRANDI DENISE

"I was bad at everything. And the first time I got on stage to do standup… I was like, oh this is what it feels like to get on stage and be good at something."

TIP HARRIS

"One day we were at an open mic night and my partner Kdub was hosting. He go up on stage and out of sheer spite says 'Coming up on stage, whether he knows it or not, Tip Harris.' And I tried to wave it off but the crowd clapped so loud, they were looking forward to it. From my seat to the stage I had to come up with something, and once I got my first laugh I fell in love with it."

LAVAR WALKER

"The first time I did it was in my first year of college. I went back home to Chicago, At this comedy club All Jokes Aside. Got on stage, got booed. I said, yo this aint for me. So then I picked the mic up again my last year of pharmacy school and I just said i'm gonna keep going no matter what."
