BET Awards 2023: 5 Standout Tracks from SZA’s 'SOS' Album

The 2023 project is nominated for “Album of the Year.”

Following a string of self-released EPs and mixtapes, Solána Imani Rowe, known as SZA, emerged as one of contemporary music's most compelling and influential voices. Her 2017 debut studio album, Ctrl, catapulted her into the mainstream spotlight while earning the songwriter several accolades, including five nominations at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.

The singer’s latest release, SOS, bumps the mythical musical sophomore jinx. The 23-track project finds that SZA pushes the boundaries of her artistry with songs like “Nobody Gets Me” and even rapping a couple of bars in “Smoking on my Ex Pack.”

SOS has become the former BET Awards winner’s best project, breaking records and earning the singer several accolades. Ahead of this year’s BET Awards 2023, check out five standout singles from the latest project.

  • “Good Days”

Released in 2020, “Good Days” almost quickly gained widespread acclaim for its subject matter and soothing r&b sound, addressing self-reflection and personal growth themes. Two music videos were also released for the track, directed by the singer.

  • “Kill Bill”

“Kill Bill” is the second song featured on SZA’s album. It gets its title from the Quentin Tarantino-directed martial arts film, and much like its leading lady, SZA finds herself on a revenge path.

  • “Nobody Gets Me”

“Nobody Gets Me” appears at number 14 on the album and unlike the r&b songs SZA has released up until now, the record found the singer tapping into alternative rock and country sounds.

  • “Snooze”

SZA co-wrote this mid-tempo r&b alongside producers Babyface and musical duo The Rascals, consisting of Leon Thomas III and Khristopher Riddick-Tynes. The track is the 6th single from the project.

  • “Shirt”

SZA initially teased the track on her Instagram story on October 7, 2020. It would go viral a year after the song triggered a dance challenge on TikTok, with fans unofficially naming the record, “Shirt.”
