Box Office: Fast & Furious 6 Races Past Hangover III
In the race for audience attention over the holiday weekend, Fast & Furious 6 was the clear victor.
The most recent installment of the fast-paced series earned $120 million over the long weekend, more than double The Hangover Part III. That film took in $53 million for a somewhat flat second place finish. Fast 6 had the most profitable opening weekend of the franchise, while Hangover III had the worst.
Animated film Epic, voiced by Beyoncé, Aziz Ansari and Colin Farell, came in fourth with $42.6 million, just behind Star Trek Into Darkness in third place. Iron Man 3 rounded out the top five. Combined, the films added up to the highest-grossing Memorial Day weekend in history.
Next week, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson roar into town with The Internship while Will Smith and Jaden Smith battle the future in After Earth.
