Ray J Is Still Waiting For His Check From Kanye West For His Depiction In The 'Famous' Video
It's been a little over a year since Kanye West dropped his controversial music video for “Famous,” featuring naked wax figures of various celebrities in bed with each other. And although both the single and video caused quite the conversation within pop culture, it seems the only one who benefited from its monumental impact was Kanye. In fact, Ray J says he didn't receive a check for the wax depiction used of him in visual.
On the Sept. 28 episode of “Everyday Struggle,” Ray J revisited Kanye’s infamous video. Despite reports that claimed the Love & Hip Hop personality was upset with Ye using his likeness for media attention, Ray acknowledged that the visual was a form of art. “It's all art," Ray J said at around the 35:50 mark. "It's all a part of whatever society has allowed us to do and be. You have to accept that.”
Even so, the “One Wish” singer still had to let everyone know he was denied a payday. “Was it creative? Yeah. Was it over the top? Yeah. Did I get a check from it? No,” he said.
Although Ray originally responded to the video with his own version of “Famous” with Chris Brown, the singer says he’s leaving that type of energy in the past. “It’s all good, man,” he said. “We all did s**t. It’s all love. At the end of the day, we’re all getting money. [Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are] married, they got kids. I’m married. I want to have kids.”
He also claimed that the “crazy savagery days” were long gone, and the focus was getting money and being happy. “Now we are all doing new things. And the more money that we make and the more kids that we can have, you know? Let’s all smile and get to the money. It feels good,” he added.
All parties involved have definitely come along way over the past year. As Ray said, he’s married and looking to grow his family with Princess Love. And Kim and Kanye are reportedly expecting their third child by way of surrogacy. Clearly everyone’s growing up.
