Darrell Walker, General Counsel of BET Networks, recently sat down with us to discuss his greatest joys in life: his children.

A proud father of three boys and two girls, Darrell shares, “I don’t know what’s more frightening, sending a son out into the world or having that precious gift that’s a daughter and recognizing that you have to at some point let go, which I’m still finding hard to do.”

“They are both equally terrifying,” Darrell admits in regards to raising sons and daughters. He adds, “You’re your son’s first hero. You’re the first male your daughter loves. Each of those has a very heavy responsibility, but that’s also the blessing.”

Sadly, Darrell’s oldest son, Brandon Matthew Walker, passed away. While Darrell misses him terribly, he fondly and proudly recalls his son’s life and shares, “He is still my inspiration. I continue to love him and my younger children to death and they are the joys of my life.”
