Timbaland Details Missy Elliott’s New Album: ‘Some Of It Has A Latin Feel’
Missy Elliott has a new album coming out soon and her long time collaborator and Grammy Award-winning producer Timbaland is spilling all the details.
It’s been well over a decade since the Virginia native released a full length album. However, during a recent interview with Variety, Timbaland addressed a number of topics including potential new music from Missy, telling the outlet, “We’ve got a lot of songs we’re gonna start recording soon.”
Timbaland, who dominated the music industry alongside missy during the late 90s and early 2000s, revealed his “dream” is to release the project sometime in July, which also marks Missy’s birthday.
As far as what it will sound like, Timbaland told reporters he wants the album to “sound how she looks” before praising the female emcee, stating, “she looks incredible right now. We both look like we 19 again.”
He continued, “I know how Missy works: It’s got to be new and fun — or maybe not so much new as kind of underground, and everything is upbeat.” The industry veteran added, “Some of it has a kind of Latin feel to it, almost a Bad Bunny effect, some of it’s kinda like underground Brazilian funk.”
Timbaland is sure “People gonna eat it up”but he’s ok if it reaches “just a different demographic of people.” He added, “It’s like it’s her doing… not reggaeton but Missy-ton.”
Missy’s last album, The Cookbook was released in 2005. Timbabland worked on several tracks from that project including a song titled “Joy” featuring Mike Jones and “Partytime.”
