Gayle King Hilariously Pranks Charles Barkley and Her Bestie Oprah

Ms. Winfrey wasn't having it.

A new prank is happening in these streets involving an oil rig. People call their family members and friends and tell them that they have gotten a job in underwater welding and have to work on an oil rig. Ever the lover of a “harmless prank,” Gayle King called her best friend Oprah Winfrey, went to her friend Charles Barkley (because she knew he’d snap), her kids Will and Kirby, and her son-in-law Virgil to get them out on this imaginary oil rig. And yes, the results were hilarious.

King went the extra mile to ensure each pitch catered to each victim. With Oprah, she said they had been pitched the opportunity to learn how to cap an oil rig with ExxonMobil for “Adventures of Oprah and Gayle.” Refreshingly knowing herself fully, Oprah said no definitively.

"I'm not interested in learning how to cap an oil rig," Winfrey said with conviction. When King asked her to approach the idea as "stepping outside your comfort zone," Winfrey responded that learning how to cap an oil rig is "not something that I want to do in this lifetime, OK? It's not on my list. Thank you for the opportunity!"

King said she wouldn’t do it by herself, and Oprah said, “ask your other friend.” So she gave up on Oprah and took her pranking talents to Charles Barkley. In his typically loud manner, Barkley said, “That’s a hard no!”

"I'm not going underwater, Gayle, they got sharks and s**t out there. You don't watch shows?" He proclaimed. King’s persistence was admirable when she asked Barkley if he was thinking about it. He said, “I'll tell you no again next week.”

King’s son Will was also a no, but his no was softer and suggested things that would be safer and more to his liking like training to be in front of the house a la Hulu’s “The Bear,” or maybe surf school. But the oil rigs, no!

Here’s hoping Gayle keeps on pranking the people in her life.
