No Surprises at Emmy Awards

Breaking Bad, Modern Family were night's big winners.

The Emmy Awards have come to a close and Breaking Bad was the big winner of the night. The drama series, which ended its run earlier this year, took home prizes for Best Drama Series, Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Aaron Paul), Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Anna Gunn) and Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Bryan Cranston).

While none of our favorite Black actors took home Emmy gold during the primetime telecast, Orange Is the New Black's Uzo Aduba and Scandal's Joe Morton were winners during the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony earlier in the week.

Kerry Washington
lost out on the Best Actress in a Drama Series prize for the second year in a row, with the award instead going to The Good Wife's Julianna Margulies
Idris Elba and Chiwetel Ejiofor, who were both up for Lead Actor in a Mini-Series or Movie (Elba for Luther, Ejiofor for Dancing on the Edge), both lost to Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock: His Last Vow). Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andre Braugher, meanwhile, was overlooked in favor of Modern Family's Ty Burrell for Supporting Actor in a Comedy.

Angela Bassett
(American Horror Story) and Don Cheadle (House of Lies) also failed to turn their nominations into wins.
The real winners were definitely the night's presenters. Key and Peele made a splash with a hilarious comedic bit while introducing the Emmys accountants from Ernst & Young, while Viola Davis stunned while presenting the Best Actress in a Drama Series award. Kerry Washington, looking positively stunning in one of her first post-baby appearances, enthusiastically presented the award for Best Actress in a Mini-Series or TV Movie to Jessica Lange
