Obama Speaks on Terrorism, Economy and Trayvon on Tonight Show
President Obama stopped by The Tonight Show With Jay Leno Tuesday night and discussed a number of issues, including terrorism, the economy and Trayvon Martin, during his interview.
After opening up about his 52nd birthday over the weekend and joking about having more “silver hair” these days, Obama talked about his comments surrounding George Zimmerman's trial. “…what I wanted to try to explain was why this was a particularly sensitive topic for African-American families, because a lot of people who have sons know the experience they had of being followed or being viewed suspiciously," he told Leno.
The president also discussed national security and the embassy closings in parts of the Middle East, Africa and Asia, global travel warnings and NSA leaker Edward Snowden.
During his sixth appearance on the late-night talk show, Obama also touched on his current campaign to provide economic stability for the American middle class.
“...what Washington should be thinking about every single day is how do we make sure we’ve got an economy where if folks work hard, they can find a good job that pays a decent wage; they can send their kids to college; they've got health care they can count on; they can retire even if they don't get rich…,” Obama said.
He added that on Oct. 1, people will be able to log on to healthcare.gov and sign up for low-cost health care.
