NAACP files segregation lawsuit against University of North Carolina.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) launched a segregation suit against the University of North Carolina on behalf of Thomas Hocutt, an African-American student denied admission into UNC’s School of Pharmacy. In the end, the lawsuit was lost on a technicality because the school’s president refused to verify Hocutt’s transcripts.
