Singer, songwriter, and producer John Legend—known for his stellar piano skills and breathtaking ballads— and his wife, model Chrissy Teigen will be gracing the cover of the September 2023 edition of Architectural Digest.

The “All of Me” singer and cookbook author has been married since 2013 and has four children, Luna, 7; Miles, 5; Esti, six months and Wren, born in June. The family is no stranger to moving homes as ‘serial home buyers’, but Chrissy said they wanted something fitting for their four children. “We wanted to create something magical, especially for the kids,” and so continues the fairytale in their latest home.

Velvet and moody is just one way to describe this $17.5 million property, designed by AD100 creative Jake Arnold, who spearheaded renovating and reimagining their modern-organic home. The 7-bedroom, 8 bathroom residence includes a primary suite and children’s bedrooms, as well as a piano bar, cushioned movie theater, and a turfed poolside backyard overlooking the California Hills.

“We hired Jake because we love his taste,” said Legend. Arnold commented on the obstacle of integrating the couple’s style and family structure into the design. “My challenge was to take this very contemporary, shiny new house and apply my philosophy to it—to make it inviting and livable, a version of what I do that speaks directly to their personalities,” he said. “They use every room in the house, and no place is off-limits to the children, so it all had to be casual and comfortable.”

The home comprises browns, greens, and yellows, giving the house a ‘natural’ vibe, including having a (formerly live) olive tree in the middle of their living room.

However, despite the chic design, they still prioritized comfort.“We always wanted to have a home where it would be like an open door for our friends and family,” said Legend.

The family’s light and airy Beverly Hills retreat will be home to many more movie nights, Girl Scouts meetings, and Real Housewives watch parties, according to the couple. “Every house we’ve ever had reflects the moment we were in our lives, like chapters in a book,” said Teigen.
