LL Cool J Sparks Another Rap Debate with Def Jam Mount Rushmore Picks
LL Cool J recently got caught up in the Mount Rushmore of rappers debate.
The hip-hop veteran was asked to name his Mount Rushmore of Def Jam artists during a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” show.
“It’s LL, it’s Public Enemy, it’s the Beastie Boys, and it would have to be Slick Rick,” he said. “Because it’s Def Jam.” Sharpe then added, "We got JAY-Z, we got Kanye [West], we got Rihanna, we got DMX, we got Luda, we got Nas… Was Hov not on Def Jam?" LL Cool J gave Sharpe a confused look. "Yeah, a thousand years later," he asserted.
The New York native later defended his choices by saying those artists helped shape the dominant rap label into what it is today. He also acknowledged that his answer would cause a stir on social media. Check out the full conversation below.
LL Cool J recently made headlines for saying he wants to hear Andre 3000 rap instead of playing the flute.
“I need him to spit, though,” he said during a conversation with Lena Waithe on “The Shop.” “I need him to spit. Flutes? Man, come on, bro,” he said before acknowledging that “the comments are gonna be crazy.” LL continued his point by giving Andre his flowers before declaring himself anti-flute. “He’s amazing, all right? His bars is all the way up. I’m very clear. Not the flute, B. Not the flute. Don’t do the flute.”
