Of Course: Geoffrey Owens Reveals That Bill Cosby Is The Reason He Had To Work At Trader Joe's

This is sad.

Geoffrey Owens' story became the forefront of pop culture news after an intrusive stranger took his photo, without his permission, while he bagged groceries at a Trader Joe's in New Jersey. Since then, the actor has been shamed for working the blue-collar job, which he admitted to accepting simply to support himself and his family.

Now, the Cosby Show alum is going a bit more in-depth on his decision to work at the popular grocery store and in his explanation, he admitted that Bill Cosby was partially responsible for him taking the route he did.

In an interview with People, Owens revealed that Cosby's highly publicized and heavily criticized sexual assault scandal led to him working at Trader Joe's as reruns were pulled from syndications, resulting in his royalty checks drying up.

"Yes, it impacted me financially," he told the publication. "At the time that the show was pulled, that did make a difference in our income. That was one of the elements that led to my getting to the place where I said to myself, 'I have to do something' and I was thinking, 'What can I do?' and the answer ended up being Trader Joe's, which is actually a wonderful situation for me in many ways."

After continuing to state that he was grateful for the opportunity at the grocery store, which he said he enjoyed, he stressed, "I got to the point, I just had to do something to support myself and my family.'"

Since the scandal, which was initiated by Fox News' malicious story job-shaming the actor, went viral, Owens took it upon himself to quit his immensely criticized position at Trader Joe's as the attention from the public was beginning to affect his productivity. He has since been offered a 10-episode run on Tyler Perry's OWN drama The Haves & The Have Nots, which he has since accepted.
