SMH: Aaliyah Fans Were Caught Doing This To Her New Wax Figure

The late singer’s estate has released a statement on the matter.

It’s barely been a week since Madame Tussauds unveiled its new Aaliyah wax figure, and fans are already being put on blast by the late songstresses’ estate for their bad behavior regarding her statue. Last Wednesday (Aug. 21), the museum debuted their sculpture of the R&B icon made in her likeness in recognition of her impact on music, immortalizing her legacy.

  • The museum recreated her iconic bejeweled look from her classic 2001 “Try Again” music video in a lifelike replica of Aaliyah that had fans singing their praises. Fans spent years petitioning the Haughton family to permit Madame Tussauds to honor Baby Girl with the memento. But now, a few inconsiderate individuals are throwing the hard work of thousands down the drain.

  • Apparently, the reckless individuals altered the hair on Aaliyah’s statue, and also applied lip gloss to her face. The late singer’s estate published photos of the damage, along with a strongly-worded tweet condemning the actions.

In a statement issued on the social account, the estate called fans out for their inappropriate behavior and requested that Aaliyah’s sculpture be treated with “respect.”

“We ask kindly that anyone visiting the Aaliyah wax figure @TussaudsVegas please treat it with respect,” This has been a lot of years of hard work by her fans petitioning and her family’s @RAD_6 support! Below is inappropriate and unacceptable #TeamAaliyah,” the statement reads.

  • In a follow-up tweet, Aaliyah’s estate posted a screengrab of a direct message from Madame Tussauds Las Vegas museum Instagram account where the institution broke down that they have a team of on-site artists that work daily to maintain the upkeep of their wax figures.

  • “It’s a shame some people have no respect!!” the estate concluded in their final sentiments addressing the matter. In response, some fans are asking that the estate requests for Madame Tussauds to put up a sign to keep people from touching the figure.

  • In an exclusive statement provided to Page Six, the museum explained that attendees are allowed to interact with their waxworks under the supervision of guides although they didn’t elaborate on what boundaries are in place to make sure behavior like this doesn’t happen.
“Madame Tussauds is a unique experience where fans can come face to face with the stars and their idols. We take pride in ensuring all guests have an authentic experience and encourage guests to interact and have fun while being respectful,” the museum told the publication. “We do have in-attraction hosts on hand to guide guests through their experience and capture that perfect Instagram picture at all times.”

Still, the situation isn’t sitting right with a vocal majority of fans who felt that Aaliyah’s image was being disrespected.
