Red-Carpet Bits: Vanessa Williams, Garcelle Beauvais and Holly Robinson Peete on 2012
At Friday night's NAACP Image Awards, BET.com got the scoop on what fans can expect from some of our favorite actresses in 2012. Like the rest of the Desperate Housewives, Vanessa Williams is getting evicted from Wisteria Lane, as the ABC Sunday night series will end its eight-year run this spring. “I’ll miss the camaraderie with the cast, the four amazing women that I work with, and the actors who play their husbands. It’s been wonderful,” raves Williams, who won’t be idle for long. “I have a book coming out in April called You Have No Idea. I’ll do some theater, and get back to the studio to record,” she says.
Garcelle Beauvais has two reasons to be excited about 2012: her TNT series Franklin & Bash will return for its second season this summer. “We have some great guest stars,” she says, revealing that Rick Fox, Seth Green and Beau Bridges will appear on the series, and that Boris Kodjoe will play her love interest. In addition, she’ll play Denzel Washington’s ex-wife in the drama Flight, which is about an airline pilot in the aftermath of a heroic act. On working with Washington: “Crazy-good. It’s like winning the Lotto,” says Beauvais, who spent between-scenes time “talking about our kids” with him. “My son went to school with his kids so we knew each other from that,” she explains.
Holly Robinson Peete, who was fired from daytime’s The Talk after one season, isn’t letting that slow her down at all. The avid autism activist is turning her attention toward elder care in her new series Your Turn to Care, premiering on Los Angeles independent station KCET on March 7. “We all have to deal with taking care of our aging parents and it’s about all the things you have to do,” says Peete, whose father had Parkinson’s disease. After that, “I have some really big things that are coming up. I can’t say yet, but it’s really good stuff that I’m excited about,” says Peete, who’ll have a blink-and-you’ll-miss-her cameo in the movie version of her former series 21 Jump Street, arriving in theaters March 16.
