How A Waitress Clapped Back At Teens Writing Racist Message Instead of Tipping
An Indianapolis waitress in Ind didn’t take kindly to being stiffed for a tip and instead being left a racially targeted message by some teenage customers, so she decided to teach them a lesson.
Like any normal day, Amira Donahue had served a table of teen boys and checked them out when they finished eating, but was taken by surprise with what would happen next. As she approached the table to pick up the check, she noticed the shocking message on the gratuity line.
To her dismay, instead of writing a tip amount, “Black” is clearly written on the line. She immediately runs to management to inform them of the situation. However, another table needing to be served arrives and she is forced to push the hurtful scenario under the rug.
“They could’ve just left it blank or wrote ‘$0’ but no, they chose ‘Black’,” she frustratingly detailed in a video she posted to TikTok, which now has more than 700,000 likes.
When going back to clear off the table for the following guests, that’s when she notices the same teens hanging around outdoors, seeing this as her opportunity to teach the group of boys a lesson. She proceeds to take the check while hitting record to confront the teens.
One boy is in denial, claiming he didn’t know what the word meant, or didn’t know he should tip. “So you wrote ‘Black’? Is that like your favorite color?” she quickly clapped back. They nervously tried to offer a tip after the fact, but Donahue affirms that she doesn’t care about their money, but the principle behind their actions.
She makes it clear in a follow-up post that the point of the video was not to expose them, but to humiliate them in an effort to teach a lesson. In her defense, she said, “It was the karma that they needed. I’m sure they’ve seen the video; they’re a group of teenagers…whatever guilt is eating them up is probably good for me,” going on to say she hopes the parents see the video.
