Entertainment News: Shemar Moore Gets Probation

Posted Jul. 25, 2007 - "Criminal Minds" star Shemar Moore was sentenced to 36 months probation after pleading no contest in an alcohol-related speeding case.

Moore, 37, was arrested June 1 after being stopped by the California Highway Patrol doing over 65 mph on a city street, officials alleged. He was charged June 22 with driving under the influence and driving with an alcohol-blood level of .08 or above. As part of a plea deal, Moore pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of exhibition of speed, and the DUI charges were dropped. The actor was given 36 months probation, and agreed to serve DUI related conditions, including not driving with alcohol in his system, officials said.

Moore also agreed to 80 hours of community service, including the choice of wearing an alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet. "Shemar has not yet made a choice with regard to his community service," his publicist Staci Wolfe said Monday. Moore plays FBI profiler Derek Morgan on the CBS television series "Criminal Minds." "I'm a serious and conscientious person by nature, but my one vice is driving fast, and it unfortunately took something like this for me to take stock and slow down," Moore said in a statement last month.
