Kanye West Makes Musical Return With New Dr. Dre-Produced Song, ‘Wash Us In Blood’

The single will be on his forthcoming album, God’s Country. This is West’s follow-up to 2019’s Jesus Is King.

The next Yeezy era could be just around the corner.

  • Soon after unveiling his forthcoming GAP collection this weekend, Kanye West returned to Twitter on Monday (June 29) where he unveiled that he is gearing up to release a new album, God’s Country, his follow-up to 2019’s Jesus Is King. The project marks his tenth studio album. Along with the announcement, the rapper shared a 10-second of the album’s lead single, titled “Wash Us In Blood.”

  • Less than 24 hours later, “Wash Us In Blood” officially premiered. The rapper shared the link to the video via Twitter. The track was mixed by Dr. Dre and features Travis Scott.

  • The 3 minute and 41 second Arthur Jafa-directed music video opens with footage of a protest before the first couple of bars come on. On the song, West calls for salvation with references to slavery, genocide, mass incarceration, the death penalty and more.

Kanye West first unveiled the single in his cover story for GQ’s May 2020 issue.

“I was thinking of not rapping again, because I rapped for the devil so long that I didn’t even know how to rap for God. Then one of my pastors told me, ‘My son just said that he would want a rap album about Jesus from Kanye West.’ He didn’t say, ‘Kanye West, you should do this,’ or ‘you need to do this.’ He just told me something that a child said. And that one thing made the difference,” the rapper explained of his reorientation towards gospel music.
