Prince Sued for 'Stealing' Former Voice Contestant

Judith Hill recorded and released an entire album with the Purple One while allegedly under contract.

Prince is being taken to court for shamelessly stealing recording artist Judith Hill from Jolene Cherry, the producer who discovered Lady Gaga, reports TMZ.

Prior to making her debut on The Voice in 2013, Hill was chosen as Michael Jackson's duet partner for his final 'This Is It' World Tour and also appeared in the Oscar-winning documentary, 20 Feet From Stardom. Though Hill ultimately did not win the hit singing competition, she caught the attention of Sony and Cherry, who joined forces and claimed they signed her to an exclusive recording contract.

Their agreement took an unexpected turn, however, when Sony and Cherry got word that Hill was meeting with Prince for a recording session. Despite warning her to stop earlier this month, Hill apparently went on with the Purple One, recording an entire album — 11 songs — under his direction, and even released the project on Monday (March 23) as a free download.

Prince's alleged backwards approach did not go over well with Cherry, who has now taken legal action against the legend, suing him for both regular and punitive damages for his "underhandedness."
