Five TV Shows to Binge on BET+
Winter break is fast approaching, so it’s time to hunker down indoors, get cozy, and find some content to binge-watch. Enter BET+ there’s a lot to watch, and if you’re in the mood for some good TV shows, here are five shows you should either get into or catch up on this season.
Kingdom Business
Sex, lies, drama and faith take center stage on Kingdom Business. This series is about the underbelly of the gospel music industry. The story unfolds through the lens of gospel giant Denita Jordan (Yolanda Adams). Jordan is ruthless, and when a new young singer (played by Serayah) threatens her top spot, all hell breaks loose. Kingdom Business is currently in the throes of its second season. It’s a who-shot Denita situation unfolding most chaotically. So, if you like all the thrills and scandal that can accompany a church drama, this is the show for you.
Average Joe
In Average Joe, Deon Cole stars in his first lead role, and the first role of its kind for him. The show is about an everyday man named Joe, who gets caught up in his late father’s drama. After his father dies mysteriously, he learns that Papa Dearest stole millions of dollars from the Russian mob. That puts Joe, his family and close friends in a dangerous situation that sends them down a rabbit hole of finding the money but also keeping the Russian mob off their tails. It’s also loosely based on a true story so have fun watching season one trying to imagine what bits and pieces of the real story got chopped and screwed. - catch up on season 1.
Ruthless
If you’re a fan of The Oval, you know about the Rakadushi cult. Ruthless takes a deep dive into their shenanigans. It centers around Ruth, who kidnapped her young daughter and dragged her into the cult. Realizing she made a grave mistake, Ruth is now trying to escape the Rakadushi compound with her child. She is navigating a world of drugs, sexual deviancy and extreme violence while plotting how she and her daughter are going to get out alive.
The Family Business
Carl Weber's The Family Business is based on the books. It centers around the Duncan family. By day, they run a seemingly upstanding car dealership, but by night, they are at the forefront of a criminal underworld that’s robust with hidden and overt dangers. The family patriarch, LC Duncan (Ernie Hudson), tries to keep it all together with the help of his wife and children, but things don’t always go as planned, especially when his bitter brother comes along with a score to settle and complicates everything.
American Gangster: Trap Queens
This documentary series delves into the lives of women who turned to a life of crime but ultimately learned hard lessons about the streets. The stories are tragic, but there is a message of hope as many of the cases examined feature women who learned to change their ways.
