Uzo Aduba Runs Boston Marathon for Breast Cancer Awareness
Uzo Aduba showed off her athletic side on Monday finishing the Boston Marathon with the impressive time of 5:01.
The Orange Is the New Black star, a Massachusetts native, was running for a cause very close to her heart: breast cancer awareness. After losing her close friend Andrea Trasher last year to the disease, Aduba used the event to raise over $10,000 for the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge, benefiting "Innovative Basic Cancer Research."
What's more, the Emmy winner, who also got her degree from Boston University, ran in solidarity with the victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. “It feels like the right thing to do,” Aduba tells People. “It still feels pretty raw, and with [the trial] it almost feels like a Band-Aid getting pulled back again. That’s where I grew up, where I learned what a marathon even was … to be a part of it, it feels particularly special.”
Congratulations to Aduba for crossing the finish line! Check out the actress talking about nearly quitting the business on The Queen Latifah Show below.
